MEMBERS-ONLY WEBINARS AND NETWORKING OPPORTUNITIES
NEDA has members that represent 49 US states as well as several other countries, offering opportunities to share with and learn from others throughout the world. Regular online gatherings offer current NEDA members easily accessible ways to learn from EOL thought leaders and influencers, as well as to build important relationships with each other. Notices and Zoom links for upcoming events are distributed via various communications to our members in advance.

Educational Webinars
NEDA offers a minimum of six different educational webinars on a broad variety of topics relevant  to our work in end-of-life care each year.
  • Descriptions of past webinars can be found at: https://www.nedalliance.org/webinars.html
  • Webinars are typically recorded and available to members under the “Files” tab on our members-only Facebook page, or upon request through eoldalliance@gmail.com.
  • Upcoming webinars will be announced in advance here, as well as on our social media platforms, in the NEDA NEWs, and email messages. Zoom links are also sent automatically in advance.

Member Socials
These events offer opportunities for members to learn more about board initiatives, connect with fellow NEDA members, share ideas about how NEDA can better support all of us as we serve our communities, and discuss various topical themes that impact the work of our members. Scheduled quarterly, each social includes time for board/committee presentations and breakout rooms that allow members to network and discuss select topics set for each session.  A Zoom link will be sent prior to each gathering.
Upcoming 2022 Member Socials. All will be held from 8:00 - 9:30 p.m. Eastern Time.
  • Thursday, April 7
  • Thursday, July 14
  • Friday, October 7

"Read and Share” NEDA-Supported Book Clubs
These JEDI-inspired (Justice, Equity, Diversity and Inclusion) book clubs prioritize increased awareness around end-of-life needs and challenges for underserved populations. Two such gatherings are scheduled for 2022. The first (in progress) features the book: LGBTQ-Inclusive Hospice and Palliative Care: A Practical Guide to Transforming Professional Practice by Kimberly Acquviva, with  group discussion scheduled for Friday, May 6, 2022. Pre-registration is required. For more information about participation, please contact: elizabeth@thepeacefulpresenceproject.com

Regional Groups Discussions
For NEDA members who are interested in networking closer to home, we have compiled a resource document called Forming Regional Group Guidelines designed to help create and build professional end-of-life doula groups. In 2022, eight on-line meetings are scheduled for members to meet by geographic region and use time to network, problem solve, plan events, and more. Upcoming events are listed below. Zoom links are sent out automatically in advance to all current members via email.
  • Wednesday, May 11, 7:00 - 8:30 p.m. Eastern Time Zone
  • Thursday, June 23, 7:00 - 8:30 p.m. ET
  • Monday, August 15, 7:00 - 8:30 p.m. ET
  • Sunday, September 18, 4:00 -- 5:30 p.m.
  • Tuesday, November15, 7:00 - 8:30 p.m. ET
  • Monday, December 5, 7:00 - 8:30 p.m. ET

Additional Region-Specific Meetings
These groups are member-run and not intended to be managed by the NEDA board long term. Moving regional groups forward will take time, creative energy, and leadership from NEDA members in each respective region. We encourage you to consider how you can personally help to generate interest and momentum in your area. For those who would like their contact information shared with other NEDA members, please complete this form.

Five of the eight regions are already being led by volunteer member facilitators who are taking the lead in organizing communication within their Regions. Following is a list of regions, the states included in each region, and the facilitator. Please contact facilitators directly if you would like to be added to their email list. Their contact information is in the NEDA Directory.

Midwest: North Dakota, South Dakota, Nebraska, Kansas, Minnesota, Iowa, Missouri, Wisconsin, Illinois, Michigan, Indiana, Ohio
  • Facilitator: Rae Walton  Note: This group has already started to meet on the first Thursday of each month.

OPEN-AUDIENCE EVENTS
While the majority of NEDA events are designed as a benefit for currently active doula and trainer members, there are occasions when we invite and encourage participation from a much broader audience.

Wednesday, June 1, 2022: Panel Discussion: How Do You Doula? Please join us on Zoom from 7 - 8:30 pm for a panel discussion to learn how four of our NEDA members are working as doulas in their communities.

Meet the NEDA Member Doula Trainers
One of the most frequently asked questions received by NEDA is “Which training program do you recommend?” We’re always delighted to respond and explore options, but since NEDA’s purpose is to elevate the work of all our members, we do not endorse or advocate for any particular approach. What's “best” for one person may not be the “best” for someone else and depends on many variable factors. However, NEDA is very committed to offering tips and tools that will help each person find their own right answers. We offer an extensive Trainer Directory as a place to explore the many different programs available and have created a more in-depth information sheet providing suggestions for how to choose an EOLD trainer.

We also encourage talking with other members who have participated in different trainings, and with trainers themselves. To make that easier, NEDA periodically hosts free, virtual open-house gatherings where select trainers are able to provide a brief overview of their programs and engage in more personal Q&A breakout sessions that follow.

Information sheets and recordings of the overview presentations can be accessed here for up to six months after the event. The most recent was held on Wednesday, January 19, 2022. For details, please review the following  Meet the NEDA Meet the Trainers Information Sheet 2t. Click HERE and use the Access Passcode: mAYg$2^7 to watch the recording of the program introductions if you were not able to attend.

Schedules and registration information for upcoming trainer showcase events will be posted here, on our social media, and in our newsletter.  Information regarding our next Meet the Trainers showcase will be posted soon.

COLLABORATIVE AND NEDA-SPONSORED EVENTS
NEDA believes it is important to nurture synergistic, mutually beneficial relationships with other organizations that are in alignment with our broader vision. One way we do that is by selectively creating collaborative events and sponsoring third-party events. Collaborative partnerships and sponsorships reach key audiences far beyond our own current membership. Through these channels, we show appreciation for the work others are doing while also raising interest in and attention to our own. If you have any ideas about possible events and sponsorships that you feel would be a good fit for NEDA, please let the events and sponsorship committee know by sending an email to eoldalliance@gmail.com.

RAD DEATH READS: Whose Life/Death Counts?
This learning opportunity is inspired by the work of our own end-of-life practitioner community and NEDA’s Justice, Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion Committee (JEDI), and curated by the Collective for Radical Death Studies. Upon completing this series, individuals will come away with a better understanding of how people with historically marginalized identities experience death and mourning, thus enabling participants to provide a more compassionate and culturally competent practice. We hope these NEDA-inspired series will illuminate our community’s capacity to show up for a diversity of living and dying experiences with greater understanding, humility, and compassion.

The cost to participate for each monthly series is $40, and this includes eight 1.5 hour online sessions in each part (held weekly for four weeks: Saturday and Sunday from 1:00 -- 2:30 pm Eastern Time) for a total of 32 sessions altogether. At this point CEUs are not available and the eight, 1.5 hour sessions will not be recorded because of the sensitive nature of the conversations. Early registration for each monthly series is a benefit to NEDA members since participant numbers will be capped at 50 and we anticipate that spaces will fill quickly!

DOULAPALOOZA CONFERENCE
Designed to connect, educate, and motivate end-of-life care providers from around the globe, Doulapalooza is the name of NEDA’s conference and flagship event. Doulapalooza’s purpose is to bring together a diverse array of talent, ideas, and opportunities for learning, networking, and inspiration to those seeking to enhance their end-of-life-doula (EOLD) practices. More specifically, its objectives focus on:
  • building relationships and collaborative support between end-of-life doula practitioners, trainers, and field professionals—locally, regionally, and nationally, and internationally
  • creating a nurturing and inclusive environment that recognizes and honors the diverse approaches, experiences, and affiliations of all end-of-life doulas
  • increasing awareness of NEDA and the role of end-of-life doulas; increasing NEDA’s membership and improving the credibility of end-of-life doulas and further developing this emerging field
  • increasing practitioner skills, knowledge, and information exchange
  • celebrating NEDA’s diverse community of end-of-life doulas and its supporting business services and organizations
  • honoring the sacred calling of supporting the dying and their families.
The first Doulapalooza conference was held October 15 – 17, 2021 with a theme of “Community – Credibility – Compassion” presented in a dynamic online format hosted on the Whova platform. The event drew nearly 400 participants and brought more than 100 new members which pushed our roles to more than 1,000.

Thank you also to our gracious and generous sponsors that included: The Dying Year, Funeral Boss INC, The Lily House, Liquid Death Mountain Water, Gonesh Incense, Mary Ruth Vitamins, LMNT,  Moxie and Grace, and JessVibez

Planning for the future:
The success of Doulapalooza 2021 showed us how important and valuable this event will be for our organization. While the date for our next Doulapalooza is yet to be determined, we expect to host it biannually.

With an event of this magnitude, we can’t wait to start planning Doulapalooza 2023. It is not too soon to start generating interest and ideas that will help shape it into something great. If you want to suggest topics of interest, names of potential speakers, become a sponsor, or volunteer to help our event planning committee, we’d love to hear from you. For details, please contact Ashley Johnson, our events and sponsorship committee chair at: eoldalliance@gmail.com.

CREATING SYNERGY THROUGH SPECIAL EVENT SPONSORSHIPS
NEDA hosted special events provide highly accessible and diverse opportunities for our members and others to learn from experts in the field and build important relationships with each other. Our events and sponsorship committee works hard to offer a variety of educational, nurturing, and inclusive events that help to further develop this emerging field.

We also believe it is important to nurture synergistic, mutually beneficial relationships with other organizations that are in alignment with our broader vision. One way we do that is by selectively creating collaborative events and sponsoring third-party events. Through these channels, we show appreciation for the work others are doing while also raising interest in and attention to our own.

If you have any ideas about possible events and sponsorships that you feel would be a good fit for NEDA, please let the events and sponsorship committee know by sending an email to
ashley.a.johnson.08@gmail.com.
